Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge 1998 magnum
The Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 1998 is a Rhône Valley red wine produced by Château de Beaucastel, owned by Jean-Pierre and François Perrin. Its blend comprises 30% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, 5% Cinsault, and 15% other grape varieties. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified separately: in truncated conical wooden vats for the Syrah and Mourvèdre, and in concrete or enamelled stoneware vats for the Grenache; the wine is then aged for one year in oak foudres. The Wine Advocate awards it 93/100, Jancis Robinson 18/20, and Wine Spectator 95/100; the published drinking windows extend up to 2027 for Wine Spectator and from 2017 to 2035 for Jancis Robinson. Critics describe a ripe and complex wine combining red fruit, herbs, spices, liquorice, and a still-fresh structure with softened tannins.
