Rostaing Cote Rotie Ampodium 2020 Bouteille (75cl)
The 2020 Côte-Rôtie Ampodium from Domaine René Rostaing is a red Rhône Valley wine made from Syrah. This cuvée was awarded 18/20 by Jancis Robinson, who recommends drinking it between 2024 and 2034. The critic describes a wine that is still youthful and reserved, driven by dark fruits, notes of grilled meat and oak, featuring fine acidity, precision, energy, and purity.

Histoire du domaine
René Rostaing founded his estate in Ampuis in 1971, whilst still working part-time in the property sector. He began with a few family-owned plots, notably in the Côte Blonde and La Landonne areas. His uncle, Marius Gentaz, a Côte-Rôtie winegrower, was a major influence on his training. René Rostaing also benefited from the experience of his father-in-law, Albert Dervieux, a winegrower and mayor of Ampuis. Between the late 1980s and the early 1990s, the departure of these two men enabled René Rostaing to take over their vineyards, including several long-established plots in Côte-Rôtie. This expansion of the vineyard allowed him to devote himself entirely to the estate. The producer also developed wine-growing activities in the Languedoc, under the name Puech Noble. In 2015, Pierre Rostaing took over the management of the family estate and took charge of the winemaking. The estate now markets wines from Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, IGP Collines Rhodaniennes and Languedoc.
Ampodium
Ampodium is Domaine Rostaing's blended Côte-Rôtie, sourced from numerous plots and lieux-dits across the appellation. It succeeded the "Cuvée Classique" and is distinguished from the estate's single-plot cuvées, notably Côte Blonde and La Landonne.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- Ampodium is presented as the name of Ampuis in Gallo-Roman times.
- Cuvée creation year
- 2009
- Style of the cuvée
- Traditional Côte-Rôtie favoring finesse, freshness, spices, and fine tannins. The blend of numerous terroirs aims for a general expression of the appellation rather than that of a single plot.
- Position within the range
- Blended Côte-Rôtie and the entry point to the range, before the more prestigious single-plot cuvées.
Histoire de la cuvée
The wine was marketed under the name "Cuvée Classique" until the 2008 vintage. The 2009 vintage is documented as the first to bear the name Ampodium.
