Histoire du domaine
Pierre-Yves Colin comes from the family behind Domaine Marc Colin in Saint-Aubin, whilst Caroline Morey is the daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, a winegrower in Chassagne-Montrachet. Pierre-Yves Colin worked at the family estate, Domaine Marc Colin, until 2005. In 2001, Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey set up a joint venture which initially marketed wines made from purchased grapes. The first vintage was then produced under the name Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. From 2006 onwards, Pierre-Yves Colin became an independent winemaker and began cultivating plots from the family estate; the estate then comprised around 6 hectares. The vineyard subsequently expanded through acquisitions and leasehold arrangements. It now covers 13 hectares across the communes of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Pierre-Yves Colin remains the owner and is responsible for the estate’s winemaking. The white wines are pressed as whole bunches and aged in barrels without stirring, according to information provided by the producer.
Morgeot [Blanc]
Morgeot is a regulated Premier Cru climat in Chassagne-Montrachet, corresponding to a vast grouping of lieux-dits in the southern part of the vineyard. The product specifications notably link La Grande Borne, La Cardeuse, Les Brussonnes, Les Boirettes, Clos Chareau, Francemont, Clos Pitois, Vigne Blanche, Ez Crottes, Guerchère, Tête du Clos, Les Petits Clos, and Les Grands Clos to Morgeot. It should not be confused with the distinct climat "Abbaye de Morgeot", which covers only parts of the Morgeot and La Chapelle lieux-dits. A producer source describing Morgeot places it mid-slope on predominantly clay-limestone soils.
- Vineyard commune
- Chassagne-Montrachet
- Origin of the vineyard name
- The name is believed to derive from the Gaulish "morga", meaning edge or limit, referring to the sector's location near the boundary of Chassagne and Santenay.
- Soil
- Predominantly clay-limestone soils, with internal variations among the grouped lieux-dits.
Histoire de la parcelle
A vineyard called "Morga" is mentioned as early as 864 in the Beaune region. In the Middle Ages, the monks of the Cistercian abbey of Maizières developed the wine estate of Morgeot through clearing, donations, and acquisitions. In 1706, their Morgeot estate comprised approximately 180 ouvrées of vines, while a 1714 map depicted an enclosure of 148 ouvrées. The Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, of which Morgeot is today a recognized Premier Cru climat, was established in 1937.
