Histoire du domaine
The Domaine de la Mordorée was established in 1986 in Tavel by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe. The family previously owned vineyards in Tavel and the Côtes-du-Rhône, before building a cellar and wine stores at the heart of the family estate. The first plot was acquired in Lirac when the estate was first established. The vineyard subsequently expanded, notably with the purchase of plots in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1989 and a hillside in Condrieu in 1992; the first barrels of Condrieu were produced in 2009. Christophe Delorme oversaw the estate’s development for nearly thirty years. He passed away in June 2015. Since 2016, his wife Madeleine Delorme and their daughter Ambre have continued to run the business with the existing team. The estate is now certified as organic and Demeter biodynamic.
Cuvée de la Reine des Bois
La Reine des Bois is explicitly presented as a historic and emblematic cuvée of Domaine de la Mordorée. The name is used for Châteauneuf-du-Pape red, Lirac red and white, as well as Tavel rosé. In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it designates a concentrated and powerful blend coming notably from the La Crau plateau, crafted for aging.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- « Reine des Bois » is a poetic nickname for the woodcock, a bird that also inspires the estate's name and several of its cuvées.
- Style of the cuvée
- An ambitious, complex, and structured expression of the estate's terroirs, generally marked by depth, concentration, and length. The red versions favor ripe fruit, balanced power, and aging potential; the Lirac blanc aims for richness, minerality, and length.
- Position within the range
- A historic, emblematic, and age-worthy cuvée, forming one of the estate's main signatures.
Histoire de la cuvée
Since its documented beginnings, the cuvée has been part of the estate's identity and its universe of names inspired by the woodcock. The producer describes it as a historic and emblematic cuvée, but no sufficiently reliable consulted source specifies its initial vintage of creation.
