Histoire du domaine
The Roty family's presence in Gevrey-Chambertin has been documented since 1710, while the ownership and cultivation of vineyards in the village date back to 1817. Joseph Roty took over the family business in 1968 alongside his paternal grandfather, Charles Roty, as his own father had died at the age of 35. He developed estate bottling and established an identity closely associated with the old vines of Gevrey-Chambertin, notably in Charmes-Chambertin, Griottes-Chambertin, and Mazis-Chambertin. His eldest son Philippe began working with him in 1990 and gradually took charge of the winemaking. Following Joseph's death in 2008, Philippe succeeded him, supported by his brother Pierre-Jean, who had been working alongside his father and brother since 2001. Philippe Roty passed away in 2015 at the age of 46, after which his vines and the cuvées previously marketed under the Domaine Philippe Roty label were reunited under the name Domaine Joseph Roty. Pierre-Jean then assumed responsibility for the vineyards and winemaking. The family structure is currently legally co-managed by Françoise Roty, Joseph's widow, their daughter Patricia Rainho-Roty, and Pierre-Jean Roty.
Cuvée de Pressonnier
Plot-selection Pinot Noir cuvée first marketed as Bourgogne Rouge, then as Bourgogne Côte d'Or. It comes from a plot formerly included within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation area before the boundary changes in 1964. It stands out from the estate's generic Bourgogne Rouge by its single-plot origin and more structured profile.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1981
- Style of the cuvée
- Generally structured and taut red Burgundy, combining red and black fruits, floral or spicy notes, and a mineral expression. Its lively acidity and tannic structure give it greater depth and aging potential than a light generic Burgundy.
- Position within the range
- Single-plot regional cuvée, positioned above the generic Bourgogne Rouge and below village appellations.
Histoire de la cuvée
The plot from which this cuvée originates belonged to the Gevrey-Chambertin area before its boundaries were modified in 1964. Bottles of Cuvée de Pressonnier have been documented at least since the 1981 vintage.
