Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Annata 1993 Bouteille (75cl) ELA
The 1993 Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Annata is a red wine from Tuscany crafted by Franco Biondi Santi in the Brunello di Montalcino appellation. Made from 100% Sangiovese, it comes from vines aged 10 to 25 years, planted with the BBS11 clone selected by the estate at Tenuta Greppo. The 1993 vintage was aged for three years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by prolonged bottle refinement. Harvest began on September 30, following a hot and dry summer.

Histoire du domaine
The history of Biondi-Santi began at Tenuta Greppo with Clemente Santi, who produced pure Sangiovese in the 19th century. A wine from 1865 was recognised in 1869 under the designation ‘Brunello’, a term then associated with this selected red wine. His grandson, Ferruccio Biondi Santi, produced the first bottle of Brunello di Montalcino to be labelled as such, from the 1888 vintage, and combined the names Biondi and Santi to create the family brand. On Ferruccio’s death in 1917, his son Tancredi succeeded him and ran the estate until 1970. Tancredi helped to spread the estate’s winemaking practices and played a part in defining the rules for the Brunello appellation. Franco Biondi Santi then took over the management of the estate and, in the 1970s, undertook work on the clonal selection of Sangiovese, which led to the BBS11 clone, registered in 1978. He also developed methods for controlling fermentation temperatures whilst championing the use of 100 per cent Sangiovese. Following his death in 2013, the family reached an agreement in 2016 with the French group EPI, which then acquired a majority stake. The estate is now owned by EPI, under the general management of Giampiero Bertolini, whilst Federico Radi has been in charge of viticulture and winemaking since 2017.
