Domain Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot 2020 Bottle (75cl)
The 2020 Domaine Thierry Allemand Cornas Chaillot is a red wine from the northern Rhône Valley, produced in the Cornas appellation. This cuvée is 100% Syrah. It comes from the Chaillots sector, where the estate farms vines on soils combining limestone and granite. Cornas is an appellation of steep slopes, dedicated exclusively to Syrah and characterized by the presence of weathered granites.

Domaine Thierry Allemand
Established in Cornas by Thierry Allemand in the early 1980s, this estate of approximately five hectares is the result of patient restoration work on abandoned plots on the granitic slopes of the appellation. Its vineyard mainly supplies the Chaillot and Reynard cuvees, two expressions of Syrah vinified separately according to their origin. Théo Allemand, Thierry's son, has now taken over the reins at the estate.

Histoire du domaine
Thierry Allemand does not come from a family of winemakers and built his estate without a winegrowing heritage. In 1981, he began working with Robert Michel in Cornas, where he learned terrace viticulture, pruning, grafting, and vinification. As early as 1982, the year of his first vintage, he acquired a plot in La Côte, partly abandoned and in need of replanting. For some fifteen years, he maintained his job as an electrician while clearing hillsides, restoring dry-stone walls, and progressively buying or renting small plots. He also worked with Noël Verset, who sold him old vines located in Reynard at the end of the 1980s; Louis Verset also sold him old vines in this same lieu-dit. The estate, now close to five hectares, was thus built around plots in Chaillot and Reynard. Thierry Allemand developed a low-intervention vinification style, using whole clusters, no new oak, prolonged aging without racking, and limited use of sulfur; a cuvée without added sulfur was produced for the first time in 1998. His son Théo has since taken over at the estate, continuing the work initiated by his father.
Chaillot
Chaillot is one of Thierry Allemand's two main Cornas cuvées. It blends the estate's younger vines, notably from Chaillot, Tézier, and Le Bois, and is therefore not a single-vineyard wine. It differs from Reynard, which is reserved for a selection of older vines.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name comes from the lieu-dit Chaillot, in Cornas, where Thierry Allemand owns vines, without exclusively designating a single-plot bottling.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1991
- Style of the cuvée
- A Cornas that is generally suppler, fruitier, and more accessible in its youth than Reynard, while retaining the freshness, finesse, and spicy expression characteristic of the estate's Syrah.
- Position within the range
- The more accessible of the two main Cornas cuvées, positioned below Reynard in the estate's hierarchy.
Histoire de la cuvée
Thierry Allemand began bottling his cuvées named Chaillot and Reynard separately in 1991, after négociants stopped purchasing his wine. From the beginning, Chaillot was conceived as a selection of the estate's younger vines.
