Histoire du domaine
According to the estate, the Féraud family’s winemaking origins in Châteauneuf-du-Pape date back to 1670; family title deeds are documented there from 1733 onwards. Laurence Féraud’s great-grandparents and grandparents gradually expanded the family estate to 22 hectares. Paul Féraud, son of Elvire and Léon Féraud, began working in the family vineyard at the age of fourteen. In 1964, he began bottling and marketing part of the production under his own name, whilst the rest was sold in bulk to wine merchants. After studying viticulture and oenology, followed by a course in business and marketing in Paris, his daughter Laurence returned to work with her parents. In 1987, Laurence, Paul and Odette Féraud established the independent estate Domaine du Pégau, initially covering five hectares, and registered the name ‘Pégau’, inspired by a 14th-century Provençal jug. The vineyard subsequently expanded through the acquisition of plots, notably those with old vines. In January 2012, the estate acquired a single contiguous 41-hectare property in Sorgues, which became Château Pégau. Laurence Féraud is now the managing partner of EARL Le Domaine du Pégau and personally oversees the winemaking process, which is based in particular on whole-bunch harvesting and vinification, as well as extended ageing for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds.
Cuvée da Capo
