Domain De Montille Vosne Romanée Malconsorts Christiane 2010
The 2010 Domaine Hubert de Montille Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts Cuvée Christiane is a red Burgundy wine made from 100% Pinot Noir. This cuvée comes from a 0.49-hectare plot located within the Aux Malconsorts climat and vinified separately. Named in tribute to Christiane de Montille, it occupies an enclave bordered to the north and west by La Tâche, without historically belonging to that climat. The estate describes this expression as denser and more structured than its other Malconsorts, featuring a mineral core and marked aging potential.

Domaine Hubert De Montille
Domaine de Montille is a family-run estate based in Volnay, in the Côte-d’Or, whose vineyards now extend across the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Owned and managed by Étienne de Montille, it cultivates 37 hectares, predominantly in Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards, across appellations such as Volnay, Pommard, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Vosne-Romanée. The estate, historically associated with Volnay red wines, has also been producing white wines since the incorporation of the Château de Puligny-Montrachet vineyard.

Histoire du domaine
The estate’s origins date back to the 1730s, when the Chauvelot de Chevannes family, who owned vineyards, settled in Volnay. The estate took the name Domaine de Montille in 1863, following the marriage of Marie Éléonore Chauvelot de Chevannes to Étienne Joseph Marie Léonce Bizouard de Montille. In the 19th century, the estate comprised around 30 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. However, the consequences of the phylloxera crisis and a series of sales reduced the estate’s holdings to around 2.5 hectares by the end of the Second World War. Hubert de Montille took over the estate in 1947 and set about gradually rebuilding the family vineyard, whilst producing and marketing his wines himself rather than selling the grapes to wine merchants. His son Étienne joined the estate in 1983, before becoming co-manager and head of winemaking in 1995, the year in which the transition to organic farming began. He took full charge of the estate in 2002 and subsequently expanded the vineyard, notably through the acquisition of plots in the Côte de Nuits between 2003 and 2005. In 2012, the estate acquired the Château de Puligny-Montrachet, adding around 15 hectares of white grape vineyards to its holdings. The vineyard now covers 37 hectares, and winemaking is overseen in the cellar by Brian Sieve, the cellar master, with Jacques Montagnon responsible for the white wine production processes.
Cuvée Christiane
Cuvee originating from a specific plot within the premier cru Aux Malconsorts, vinified and bottled separately. This plot forms an enclave bordered by the original part of La Tâche and by two paths, without having historically belonged to the La Tâche climat. The estate explicitly distinguishes Christiane from its other Aux Malconsorts.

Histoire de la cuvée
The estate acquired its plots in Aux Malconsorts in 2005 upon its return to the Côte de Nuits. This unique plot has been isolated since the very first 2005 vintage under the name Christiane, as a tribute to Christiane de Montille, who played a major role in the life of the estate.
Aux Malconsorts
Aux Malconsorts is a climat officially recognized for the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru designation, located to the south-west of the village and immediately south of the grand cru La Tâche. Facing due east, it occupies a slope with an inclination of approximately 9%. The soils change from east to west: smoothed limestone stones and small oyster shells in the eastern part, heavy stoniness of Prémeaux limestone in the center, and then angular limestone gravels towards the top. The subsoil successively combines Ostrea acuminata marl, Prémeaux limestone, and stratified scree covering the western slope.

- The name is said to refer to disputes between co-owners or litigants regarding this land held in joint ownership, with "consorts" designating here individuals sharing the same right. This interpretation, reported by several producers, remains formulated as a hypothesis.

Histoire de la parcelle
The climat appears in the cadastral survey of Vosne-Romanée, section AM, and belongs to the historical parcel layout of the Climats of the Burgundy vineyard. In 1855, Jules Lavalle classified it among the "premières cuvées" of Vosne. Today, it is expressly registered among the climats that can complete the Vosne-Romanée appellation for wines meeting the conditions for the "premier cru" mention.
