Histoire du domaine
The Coleburn distillery was built in 1897 by John Robertson & Son Ltd, a Dundee-based wine merchant and blender. Its stills came into operation around 1899. In 1915, the distillery was acquired by the Clynelish Distillery Company, which was linked in particular to John Walker & Sons and The Distillers Company Ltd. Coleburn was subsequently incorporated into Scottish Malt Distillers, a subsidiary of The Distillers Company. Its malt whisky was primarily intended for blending, notably for the Usher’s and Johnnie Walker brands. The distillery was mothballed in 1985 amid the overproduction that was then affecting the Scotch whisky industry, and its distilling licence was revoked in 1992. The buildings were acquired in 2004 by Dale and Mark Winchester of D&M Winchester Ltd; the warehouses subsequently housed maturation and storage operations run by Aceo and Murray McDavid. In 2025, D&M Winchester announced the resumption of production for 2027 under the name The Distillery at Coleburn and appointed Keith Cruickshank as master distiller.
