Château Sarget de Gruaud 2000
Château Sarget de Gruaud 2000 is a red wine from the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux, crafted by Château Gruaud Larose under the Sarget de Gruaud cuvée. Its blend consists of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. An early vintage at the estate, 2000 experienced veraison nine days ahead of normal. The harvest, carried out from September to early October, yielded particularly healthy grapes destined for this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated expression of Saint-Julien.

Histoire du domaine
The estate traces its origins back to 1725, when Joseph Stanislas Gruaud established a vineyard in the parish of Saint-Julien. In 1781, it was passed on to his nephew, the Chevalier de Larose, whose name was then associated with that of Gruaud. The estate was sold at auction in 1812. It was recognised as a Second Growth in the 1855 classification. In the 19th century, the estate was divided into two parts, marketing, in particular, the wines Gruaud Larose Sarget and Gruaud Larose Faure. Désiré Cordier acquired the Sarget portion in 1917, then reunited the two parts of the estate in 1935. The property subsequently came under the control of the Suez Group in 1983, and then Alcatel-Alsthom in 1993. The Merlaut family acquired the château in 1997. Jean Merlaut is now the owner; Nicolas Sinoquet is the managing director, Virginie Sallette is the technical director, and Gautier Pointe is listed as cellar master on the technical sheet for the 2025 vintage.
Sarget de Gruaud
Sarget de Gruaud Larose is the second red wine of Château Gruaud Larose, produced in the AOC Saint-Julien. It is the result of a selection distinct from that of the grand vin, notably coming from young vines and plots located on the edge of the plateau. It generally offers a more accessible and early expression of the estate's style.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name pays tribute to Baron Sarget, a former owner who left his mark on the history of Château Gruaud Larose.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1979
- Style of the cuvée
- A fruity and structured Bordeaux red wine, generally more supple and accessible in its youth than the grand vin, while maintaining the tannic balance and Medoc character of the estate.
- Position within the range
- Second wine of Château Gruaud Larose, positioned immediately below the grand vin in the range.
Histoire de la cuvée
Produced since 1979 as the estate's second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose takes its name from the Sarget family, linked to the property's history in the 19th century. Baron Sarget was notably the owner of one of the two entities resulting from the former estate prior to its reunification.
