Histoire du domaine
The origins of Château Ormes de Pez date back to the mid-18th century. On the eve of the French Revolution, the estate was already known as Domaine de Pez, ‘pez’ meaning ‘peace’ in the local dialect. The estate takes its name from a grove of elm trees that once stood on the site; these trees disappeared from Europe during the 1950s. In the 19th century, the property passed through the hands of several successive owners before being acquired by the Cazes family. Around 1880, Marie Cazes married Jean Guillou, then head winemaker at Ormes de Pez. Following his death at the start of the First World War, Marie Cazes took over the running of the estate. Her brother, Jean-Charles Cazes, bought the château in 1940. In the early 1980s, Jean-Michel Cazes undertook the restoration and modernisation of the 18th-century buildings. The estate remains in the Cazes family’s ownership today. The official website credits Daniel Llose and Nicolas Labenne with overseeing the winemaking process, whilst the 2026 Green Guide published by *La Revue du vin de France* lists Quentin Dupla as cellar master.
