Histoire du domaine
The history of Château Haut-Batailley was initially intertwined with that of Château Batailley, whose wine was listed in the 1855 classification amongst the fifth growths of the Médoc. In 1942, the estate was divided into two separate properties, Batailley and Haut-Batailley. The part that became Haut-Batailley then passed to Francis Borie. In 1951, he expanded the vineyard by acquiring plots from Duhart-Milon. On his death in 1953, his daughter Françoise de Brest-Borie inherited the estate, and its development was overseen by her brother Jean-Eugène Borie. The Cazes family acquired Château Haut-Batailley in 2017. At that time, 22 hectares were under production; from 2018 onwards, 19 hectares classified as AOC Pauillac, which had remained unplanted for a long time, were replanted. Within three years, the vineyard’s area thus increased from 22 to 41 hectares. Winemaking is now overseen by Julien Galland, the château’s technical director.
