Histoire du domaine
According to the history published by the estate, the origins of Grand-Puy Ducasse date back to 1675, when Arnaud Ducasse acquired a house on the banks of the river in Pauillac, along with some land. Pierre Ducasse subsequently expanded the vineyard by acquiring plots situated in the territories of Pauillac, Saint-Lambert and Saint-Sauveur. In 1820, the winemaking and ageing facilities were built overlooking the Gironde estuary, on the quays of Pauillac. Two years later, Paméla Ducasse married Édouard Duroy de Suduiraut, uniting the two families. The estate was classified as a fifth growth in 1855 under the name Artigues-Arnaud. In 1931, the Duroy de Suduiraut heirs formed the Société Civile Grand-Puy Ducasse with Madame Bouteiller. A programme to restore the vineyard was carried out between 1942 and 1946, followed by the creation of the second wine, Prélude à Grand-Puy Ducasse, in 1955. Following the death of Baroness Duroy de Suduiraut in 1970, the last representative of the family, the château was sold in 1971 to the wine merchant Mestrezat-Preller. CA Grands Crus became the owner in 2005 and embarked on a restructuring of the vineyard and facilities as part of the ‘Renaissance’ project. Anne Le Naour is now the managing director, whilst Benjamin Cassoulet, the estate manager, is in charge of the estate’s technical operations.
