Histoire du domaine
Archival records mention wine production at Calon as early as the 12th century, when the noble house of Calon was one of the fiefdoms of the Lords of Lesparre. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Lur, Marsan, Vallier and Gascq families successively held these lands. In 1670, Jeanne de Gascq married Jacques de Ségur, bringing the estate into the de Ségur family. Their son, Alexandre de Ségur, simultaneously expanded the family’s holdings in Pauillac, and Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur continued this policy in the early 18th century. After the Ségur family, the Dumoulins sold the property to Firmin de Lestapis in 1824. Calon Ségur was classified as a third growth in the 1855 classification. Georges Gasqueton and his uncle Charles Hanappier purchased the estate in 1894; Georges, Édouard and then Philippe Gasqueton managed it throughout the 20th century. On the death of Philippe Gasqueton in 1995, his wife Denise took over the running of the estate with the support of their daughter Hélène de Baritault and undertook work on the cellars and the vineyard. Following the death of Denise Gasqueton in 2011, Calon Ségur was acquired by Suravenir in 2012. A renovation programme was launched in 2013, with a new fermentation vat coming into service in 2016; Vincent Millet, who joined the estate in 2006, is now responsible for its management and operational direction.
