Histoire du domaine
The documented history of the estate dates back to the 17th century, when it belonged to Étienne Monteil, canon of Saint-Émilion. François-Antoine Pouget inherited it in 1748 and gave it his name. In 1771, his daughter Claire married Pierre-Antoine de Chavaille; the Pouget de Chavaille family then kept the property for about a century and a half, despite part of its assets being placed under sequestration during the French Revolution. Château Pouget was recognized as a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé of Margaux in the 1855 classification. In 1906, the estate was acquired by Pierre Elies, an ancestor by marriage of the Guillemet family, who remain the owners today. Lucien Guillemet took over management in 1996; as an oenologist and winemaker, he oversees the technical management of the cru, which is now also co-managed with his nephew Olivier Salques.
