Mathilde et Yves Gangloff Cote Rotie La Barbarine 2019 Bottle (75cl)
La Barbarine 2019 from Domaine Mathilde et Yves Gangloff is a red wine from the Côte-Rôtie appellation in the Rhône Valley. This cuvée brings together Syrah and Viognier, two emblematic grape varieties of the appellation. The 2019 vintage thus expresses the identity of a red Côte-Rôtie crafted by the Gangloff estate under the name of the La Barbarine cuvée.

Histoire du domaine
Yves Gangloff, originally from Alsace, settled in the Condrieu region in the late 1970s. He learnt the art of viticulture as a vineyard labourer, notably at Delas Frères. Together with Mathilde, he gradually acquired plots of land, some already planted and others fallow, and built up the estate during the 1980s. The first vintages were released in 1989, from the 1987 vintage in Côte-Rôtie and the 1988 vintage in Condrieu. The vineyard subsequently expanded through acquisitions and new plantings in Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph. It now comprises 8.5 hectares of owned land, including 3.5 hectares in Côte-Rôtie, 2.5 hectares in Condrieu and 2.5 hectares in Saint-Joseph. Elsa Gangloff joined her father at the estate in 2011. Winemaking is now overseen by Yves and Elsa Gangloff, whilst Aurélien helps with the work on the estate.
La Barbarine
La Barbarine is a red cuvée marketed under the Côte-Rôtie AOC by Domaine Mathilde et Yves Gangloff. It primarily blends Syrah from several lieux-dits of the estate, with, depending on the source, a small proportion of Viognier. It is distinguished from La Sereine Noire, which is selected from older vines and positioned as the estate's most ambitious Côte-Rôtie.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1997
- Style of the cuvée
- A generally expressive, floral and fruity Côte-Rôtie, with a supple and silky texture, combining aromatic finesse, spices and a less austere structure than La Sereine Noire.
- Position within the range
- The estate's most accessible Côte-Rôtie, positioned below the old-vine cuvée La Sereine Noire.
Histoire de la cuvée
The cuvée is documented starting from the 1997 vintage. Since then, it has constituted one of the estate's two main expressions of Côte-Rôtie alongside La Sereine Noire; in 2021, it exceptionally brought together all of the estate's Côte-Rôtie grapes following frost.
