Loire Clos Rougeard Saumur Breze 2014
Clos Rougeard Brézé 2014 is a dry white wine from the Saumur appellation in the Loire Valley, crafted by Domaine Clos Rougeard. It is made from 100% Chenin Blanc. The Brézé cuvée blends several parcels located on the limestone terroir of the Butte de Brézé. At the estate, the wines undergo more than two years of ageing in barrels, followed by further maturation in bottle within tuffeau limestone cellars. This expression of Chenin combines salinity with aromatic richness.

Clos Rougeard is a wine estate in Chacé, now part of the municipality of Bellevigne-les-Châteaux, in the Saumur region. Its 15-hectare vineyard is spread across 25 plots, mainly of clay-limestone soil, and produces Saumur-Champigny wines made from Cabernet Franc, as well as a white Saumur made from Chenin in Brézé. The estate, long run by brothers Jean-Louis ‘Charly’ and Bernard ‘Nady’ Foucault, has been owned by the Bouygues family since 2017.

Histoire du domaine
Le Clos Rougeard has been based in Chacé since 1664. Eight generations have succeeded one another at the helm of the estate, the most recent being the brothers Jean-Louis ‘Charly’ and Bernard ‘Nady’ Foucault. In the 1970s, the Foucault brothers committed the estate to a winemaking approach that prioritised organic farming. From the 1980s onwards, they developed a low-intervention winemaking approach and extended barrel ageing. Jean-Louis Foucault passed away in 2015. On 22 June 2017, the estate was acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, through their family holding company SCDM. Following the takeover, Bernard Foucault supported the transition as a technical adviser. Cyril Chirouze was appointed operations director and estate manager with effect from November 2022, having previously taken over from Jacques-Antoine Toublanc as winemaker. He is now the estate’s designated manager. The vineyard now covers 15 hectares, comprising 13.5 hectares of red grape varieties and 1.5 hectares of Chenin Blanc.
