Histoire du domaine
The Bachelet brothers trace the earliest roots of the family estate back to 1620 with Pierre Bachelet; the Burgundy interprofession, for its part, documents his presence as a vigneron in Chassagne-Montrachet as early as 1648. The family settled in Saint-Aubin around 1900. In 1965, following the death of his father, Jean-Claude Bachelet took over a 7 to 8-hectare estate at just 19 years old, then mostly planted with Pinot Noir and still including plots of Gamay. Benoît joined the estate in 2000, followed by Jean-Baptiste in 2005. The two brothers eliminated chemical weedkillers in the early 2000s and concurrently began building a vat room starting in 2003 to replace several small, scattered cellars. Organic and biodynamic trials began in 2012; the entire vineyard was converted in 2016 and obtained organic certification in 2023. Benoît and Jean-Baptiste have managed the estate since 2020. They have developed parcel-by-parcel vinifications, replanted a significant portion of the vineyard with Chardonnay, and complemented the family heritage with a few acquisitions, notably in Les Murgers des Dents de Chien in Saint-Aubin and La Boudriotte in Chassagne-Montrachet.
Sous le Puits
Sous le Puits is an officially recognized climat of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, classified as Premier Cru and reserved here for white wines. It occupies the upper part of the Blagny hillside, near the hamlet of Blagny, on the edge of the bois du Trézin and above the La Garenne climat. References dedicated to the climat describe an east to south-east orientation and clay-limestone soils, which are locally stony or deep depending on the parcels.
