The 2016 Domaine Drouhin Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc is a Burgundy Beaune 1er Cru made from 100% Chardonnay. This cuvée comes from Clos des Mouches, a plot located at the southern end of the Beaune appellation, near Pommard, on an east to southeast-facing slope. Histoire du domaine
Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in Beaune in 1880, when Joseph Drouhin, aged 22, took over an established business in the town’s historic centre. From 1918 onwards, his son Maurice began developing an estate-owned vineyard. In 1921, he acquired his first plot at Clos des Mouches, in Beaune. Robert Drouhin took over in 1957 and continued to expand the estate, notably through the acquisition of Premier Crus and Grands Crus in the Côte de Nuits. In the late 1960s, he significantly expanded the estate’s presence in Chablis, acquiring nearly 40 hectares and the Moulin de Vaudon. In 1987, Robert Drouhin founded Domaine Drouhin Oregon with his daughter Véronique. Philippe Drouhin took over the management of the estates in 1988 and gradually shifted viticultural practices towards organic and biodynamic farming. The company is now run by Philippe, Véronique Boss-Drouhin, Laurent and Frédéric Drouhin; Véronique Boss-Drouhin is responsible for the cellar and winemaking. In 2023, the acquisition of two estates in Saint-Romain and Saint-Véran brought the estate’s own vineyard area to nearly 100 hectares.
Le Clos des Mouches [Blanc]
Clos des Mouches is a Beaune climat located at the southern edge of the village territory, on the slope of Mount Saint-Désiré and bordering Pommard. Its relief forms a mound with a convex profile, resulting in variations in orientation within the climat, with a southern dominance. It is planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and officially holds the Premier Cru designation for both red and white wines. The soils are described as clay-limestone and marly, with stony sectors and a heterogeneous internal geology.

Histoire de la parcelle
The climat formerly belonged to the Benedictines of the Congregation of Saint-Maur established at the Saint-Martin Abbey. Its name preserves the memory of the beehives installed on this favorably sunny hillside. Historical classifications placed it in "Première Cuvée" by Jules Lavalle in 1855, in "Première Classe" in the 1860 classification, and in "Tête de cuvée" by Camille Rodier in 1920; today it is recognized as a Beaune Premier Cru climat.
