Histoire du domaine
The Boisset family’s winemaking history, which lies at the origins of Domaine de la Vougeraie, dates back to the 1960s, with the Evocelles vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the decades, the family acquired plots in the Côte de Nuits, particularly around Vougeot, and later in the Côte de Beaune. The estate was established under the name Domaine de la Vougeraie in 1999, through the consolidation of these family-owned vineyards and estates acquired gradually. Nathalie Berges-Boisset and her brother Jean-Charles Boisset were involved in its creation. The vineyard has been managed organically since the estate’s inception and has been entirely biodynamic since 2011, according to documentation from the Boisset Group. The estate has developed a plot-by-plot approach, with winemaking and ageing methods tailored to each specific plot. Whole-bunch vinification was introduced for red wines from 2008 onwards, depending on the cuvée and vintage. The winery is located in Premeaux-Prissey, between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Today, Camille Leynaud-Prince is responsible for the estate’s oenology and winemaking.
Terres de Famille
« Terres de Famille » refers to two regional cuvees from Domaine de la Vougeraie: a Bourgogne Pinot Noir and a Bourgogne Chardonnay. Each results from the blending of several parcels rather than the expression of a single lieu-dit. Specifically, the red brings together terroirs from Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Hautes-Côtes de Nuits; the white primarily blends Chardonnays from Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and Volnay.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name evokes a family gathering: each wine brings together grapes from several parcels linked to the estate's family winemaking heritage.
- Style of the cuvée
- The red seeks a fine, fruity, and balanced Burgundian expression of Pinot Noir, with measured oak aging. The white asserts a precise, mineral, and fruity style, slightly rounded by barrel aging, particularly in large containers.
- Position within the range
- Two blended cuvees in the Bourgogne appellation, red and white, within the estate's range.
Histoire de la cuvée
The estate presents the Chardonnay Terres de Famille as the younger sibling of the red cuvee, which therefore predates it. Both wines were conceived around the idea of bringing together different components of the family vineyard in a coherent final blend. No first production year is indicated by the official sources consulted.
