Domaine de la Janasse
Domaine de la Janasse is a family-run estate based in Courthézon, in the Vaucluse, and is particularly closely associated with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Founded by Aimé Sabon using the family’s vineyards, it is now run by his children, Christophe and Isabelle Sabon. The vineyard comprises plots with soils of rounded pebbles, calcareous clay and sand, all cultivated using organic farming methods.

Histoire du domaine
The origins of Domaine de la Janasse date back to 1967, when Aimé Sabon, having returned from his military service, took over the vineyards belonging to his father and father-in-law in Courthézon. At the time, his father supplied his grapes to the co-operative winery, whilst his father-in-law sold his produce to wine merchants. In 1973, Aimé Sabon built his own winery and founded the Domaine de la Janasse, named after an old family farm situated in the hamlet of La Janasse. He then expanded the estate by acquiring new plots. The estate reports that it has grown from around 15 hectares to over 90 hectares of vineyards. In 1991, his son Christophe Sabon joined the estate after studying viticulture, oenology and marketing, and took charge of the winery. Isabelle Sabon, a graduate in oenology from Toulouse, joined the team in 2001. Christophe and Isabelle Sabon are now the owners and oversee the winemaking process. In March 2026, Juliette Sabon, Christophe’s eldest daughter and a holder of the national diploma in oenology, joined the family estate.
Les Garrigues
Les Garrigues is a distinctively marketed red Côtes-du-Rhône from Domaine de la Janasse. It comes from a 2.5-hectare plot located in Courthézon, planted with century-old Grenache on rolled pebbles and red clays. Its identity relies on the power of the Provençal terroir, the finesse of old Grenaches, and a red and black fruit profile marked by notes of garrigue.
- Style of the cuvée
- Powerful and concentrated red Côtes-du-Rhône, balanced by the finesse of old Grenaches, featuring an overall profile of red and black fruits and nuances of garrigue.
- Position within the range
- Low-production single-plot Côtes-du-Rhône, made from century-old Grenache and positioned above the Tradition red.
Histoire de la cuvée
The cuvée is recorded in an official technical sheet for the 2013 vintage and still features in the estate's official Côtes-du-Rhône lineup. The date of its initial creation is not documented in the consulted sources.
