Domaine de la Solitude
In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine de la Solitude is a historic property belonging to the Lançon family, managed today by Florent Lançon. Its 37 hectares, spread across 33 parcels between the La Crau plateau, the Vallon de la Solitude, and the Boucoup plateau, mainly bring together safre (molasse) and rolled pebble terroirs. The vineyard, certified organic in 2020 and biodynamic in 2023, retains all of the appellation's traditional grape varieties.

Histoire du domaine
The family's roots date back to the 15th century, when the Martin family, already established in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, owned a scattered vineyard. In the 17th century, Hélène Barberini, from the Tuscan family to which Pope Urban VIII belonged, married Claude Martin; their son subsequently married Françoise Deloume, who brought La Solitude as a dowry. In the 18th century, their descendant Paul Martin significantly developed the estate: his account book meticulously documents the management of the vineyard, and he was among the first French winemakers to sell his wine in bottles, notably as far as England, under the name "Vin de la Solitude". Dying prematurely, he left an estate that was subsequently passed down through the women of the family. His daughter Rosalie Martin married Martin-Moricelly, a veteran of the Napoleonic armies, and later their descendant Élodie married Paul Vigneau. In the 20th century, Marie Vigneau married Albert Jacob, who restored an estate weakened by the absence of its owners and by phylloxera. Their daughter married Pierre Lançon; in the 1970s, their sons Michel and Jean joined the estate before taking over its management. From 1999 onward, they notably created the Barberini and Réserve cuvées. Florent Lançon, son of Michel, took over the management of the estate in 2008. The Maison Famille Lançon was created in 2012 to market the estate's wines as well as a selection of wines from the Rhône Valley.
