Histoire du domaine
The origins of the Rabaud estate date back to the 17th century, when Councillor Rabaud, a magistrate at the Parliament of Bordeaux, established a vineyard there to the south of the River Ciron. The quality of its wines was already noted by the Guide Jullien in 1832. The Rabaud estate was subsequently classified as a Premier Cru in the 1855 classification of Sauternes and Barsac wines. In 1863, Henri de Sigalas acquired the estate and set about restoring it. On his death in 1895, his son Pierre-Gaston de Sigalas succeeded him. In 1903, he sold Château Rabaud and a large part of the land, but retained the 14-hectare plot situated on the southern slope, which he described as the ‘jewel of Sigalas’; the wine then took the name Sigalas Rabaud. In 1951, Marie-Antoinette de Sigalas and her husband, the Marquis de Lambert des Granges, took back this family estate, rebuilt the fermentation cellar and the wine storehouse, and revived the brand. Their children took over in 1984, with Gérard de Lambert des Granges at the helm of the estate. Laure de Lambert Compeyrot, the sixth generation since the acquisition in 1863, is currently the managing director and is identified as the owner by recent industry sources. Available sources identify Marion Clauzel as technical director in 2019, but do not provide sufficient certainty to confirm that she still holds this position today.
