Histoire du domaine
The Côte Pavie has a long history of wine-growing, and the estate is listed amongst the Saint-Émilion premiers crus in the 1850 edition of *Bordeaux et ses vins* by Cocks and Féret. In 1873, Ferdinand Bouffard inherited the estate and gradually acquired neighbouring properties to form a portfolio of nearly 50 hectares. However, the properties thus brought together continued to be vinified and marketed separately. The phylloxera crisis then severely affected this portfolio at the end of the 19th century. Following Bouffard’s death in 1912, Albert Porte took over the management of the estates in 1919, sold Pavie-Pigasse — later to become Pavie-Decesse — and brought the other estates together under the name Château Pavie. Alexandre Valette acquired the château in 1943, then passed it on to his grandson Jean-Paul Valette in 1957. The estate was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B in 1955. Gérard Perse and his wife Chantal bought Château Pavie in 1998 and undertook a restructuring of the vineyard and technical facilities. The château was elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A in 2012. In 2022, the vineyards of Château Pavie-Decesse and Château Bellevue-Mondotte were incorporated into the Château Pavie blend. Following the death of Gérard Perse in July 2025, the estate remained in the Perse family; Laurent Lusseau took over as technical director and Jean-Baptiste Pion became cellar master.
