Histoire du domaine
The documented history of the estate dates back at least to 1840, when it was listed amongst the premier crus of the commune of Léognan. It has successively borne the names Château de Canolle, La Rivette and Brion-Larrivet. In 1874, whilst owned by the Bordeaux wine merchant Ernest Laurent, it took the name Château Haut-Brion Larrivet. In 1893, the sons of Théodor Conseil acquired the property and expanded it; the vineyard then covered 50 hectares. The Féret guide classified its wines as ‘cru exceptionnel’ in 1898. The wine crisis of the 1930s and subsequent grubbings-up then reduced production almost entirely. The estate adopted the name Château Larrivet Haut-Brion in 1929; Mr Guillemaud acquired the entire vineyard in 1941 and retained ownership until 1982. The Gervoson family purchased the château in 1987, when it comprised 17 hectares of vines and 13 hectares of woodland. They gradually rebuilt the vineyard as a cohesive whole through acquisitions and new plantings, whilst modernising the facilities and conducting a geopedological study of the vineyard. Bruno Lemoine joined the estate in 2007 as managing director and winemaker, followed by François Godichon in 2015, initially as cellar master before becoming operations director. Charlotte Mignon joined as cellar master in 2020 and has been managing director since January 2025.
