Histoire du domaine

The name Destieux derives from the hamlet of ‘Des Yeux’, situated on the heights of Saint-Hippolyte, from where the vineyard overlooks the Dordogne valley. The Dauriac family acquired Château Destieux in 1971. Christian Dauriac, an oenologist and biological scientist, carried out the first wine-making on this estate in 1976. The estate’s cellars and equipment were modernised in 1999. In 2006, the château was awarded Grand Cru Classé status in the Saint-Émilion classification. Christian Dauriac remains the owner of Vignobles Dauriac, which also comprises Château Montlisse in Saint-Émilion and Château La Clémence in Pomerol. Winemaking and technical management are now the responsibility of Baptiste Munné, technical director, cellar master and vineyard manager.

The 2016 Destieux is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and features baked plums, cedar, tobacco and earth with wafts of bay leaves and redcurrant jelly. Medium-bodied, firm and grainy, it offers nice vibrancy and length.

There’s a lot to like about this wine, in that it delivers a wealth of quite rich and impressive, dark-plum and mulberry aromas and flavors with a strong core of very plush tannins, too. Long and seamless. Classy finish. Try from 2022.

Blackish crimson, and well-melded, sweet, rather simple, awkward fruit. A little hint of greenness. Scrawny end.
