Histoire du domaine
The origins of Château Croizet-Bages date back to the 17th century, when the Croizet brothers founded the estate around the hamlet of Bages, in Pauillac. They built up the vineyard by acquiring plots within the appellation. The Calvé family, Bordeaux wine merchants, purchased the property in 1853. Two years later, the estate was classified as a Fifth Grand Cru in the 1855 Imperial Classification. It also won awards at the 1878 and 1889 World’s Fairs. Following vine diseases and financial difficulties in the early 20th century, Paul Quié acquired the château in 1942. He restructured the vineyard, which then covered 55 hectares, prioritising historic plots; by the time of his death in 1968, the estate comprised 30 hectares around Bages. His son Jean-Michel modernised the production facilities and began a complete replanting of the vineyard from 1969 onwards. Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe Quié joined the family estates in 2000 and now run the château. Jean-Philippe Quié serves as technical director and is responsible for winemaking.
