Histoire du domaine
The origins of Château Certan de May date back to the de May family, of Scottish origin, who settled in France during the Middle Ages. According to documentation from Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, this family was granted the fief of Certan by royal decree in the 16th century. The estate is thus one of Pomerol’s oldest properties. Wine production there is documented from the 18th century onwards. The descendants of the de May de Certan family managed the property until 1925. In that year, the château was acquired by the Barreau family, who still run it as a family business. The estate is now owned by EARL Château Certan de May and managed by Jean-Luc Barreau. Michel Rolland oversaw the winemaking until 2012; Jean-Claude Berrouet has been working as a consultant oenologist since the 2013 vintage. The vineyard covers 5.5 hectares on clay-gravel soils on the Pomerol plateau and holds HVE certification.
