Histoire du domaine

The Bouscaut vineyard has been documented since the 17th century in the commune of Cadaujac, south of Bordeaux. At the end of the 19th century, the château, then known as Haut-Truchon, adopted the name of the locality ‘Le Bouscaut’; the Chabanneau family restructured the vineyard and landscaped the grounds. In 1925, Victor Place and the Count of Rivaud acquired the property and undertook the drainage of the vineyard, the renovation of the cellars and alterations to the main building. The Château Valoux vineyard was incorporated into Bouscaut in 1929. In 1953, Château Bouscaut was classified among the Graves crus classés, for both red and white wines. A fire destroyed the château in 1962, though the cellars were spared; the building was subsequently rebuilt to the original plans by the architect Michel Garros. Victor Place sold the estate to a group of American investors in 1968. Lucien Lurton acquired it in 1979, then passed it on to his daughter Sophie Lurton in 1992. Laurent Cogombles, an agricultural engineer and Sophie Lurton’s husband, then joined the management of the estate. The fermentation room and barrel cellar were renovated in 1990, and the facilities were further refurbished with the construction of a new barrel cellar in 2010. The estate is now run by Sophie Lurton-Cogombles and Laurent Cogombles; the latter is directly responsible for the winemaking.

The Bouscaut 2017 Blanc opens with a waft of SO2 over aromas of waxed lemons, warm apples and allspice with beeswax and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate is mouthfilling with a lovely texture and refreshing finish.

This has such attractively pure lemons, as well as light lemon-leaf and yellow-grapefruit notes. The palate has a very succulent feel with fresh acidity, holding plenty of fruit flesh and flavor nice and tight. Drink or hold.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Sweet and seductive nose. Full of leather and spice. Quite plush, but still with good bones underneath. Mixed berries, cassis and a hint of earth. Quite juicy and forward, moving to a slightly pinched finish. Medium weight.
