Histoire du domaine
According to *La Revue du vin de France*, the Charvin family has been based in Orange since 1550. In 1851, they acquired several plots on the land that now forms the estate, including four hectares of vineyards. The wine produced at that time was made by the family and then sold to wine merchants. At the start of the 20th century, Élie Charvin and his wife took over the estate; his wife managed the vineyard alone whilst her husband was serving in the First World War. The vineyard gradually expanded over the generations. In the late 1960s, Gérard Charvin took over the estate, which then covered 20 hectares. In 1990, after completing his studies, his son Laurent joined the estate and terminated the contract with the long-standing wine merchant so that the wines could be vinified and bottled on the estate itself. Laurent Charvin, now the owner and head of winemaking, runs an organically certified vineyard; the reds, in particular, are vinified from whole bunches and matured in concrete vats. The declared planted area is currently 32 hectares, with no grapes purchased from outside sources.
