Histoire du domaine
Joseph Krug founded the House of Krug in Reims in 1843, with the aim of producing a champagne every year without relying solely on the characteristics of a single harvest. In 1848, he recorded his principles of creation and blending in a personal notebook, which subsequently became a key part of the house’s legacy. His method was based, in particular, on close attention to individual plots and the ageing of reserve wines from different vintages. Six generations of the Krug family have since carried on this tradition. In the early 1970s, Rémi and Henri Krug acquired a vineyard in Mesnil-sur-Oger; the first vintage of Krug Clos du Mesnil was produced from the 1979 harvest. In 1976, the two brothers conceived the idea of a blended rosé champagne, the first version of which was launched seven years later. LVMH acquired the House of Krug in 1999. In 2011, Krug introduced Krug iD, a code that identifies the history and composition of a bottle. In 2024, the house opened a new winemaking facility in Ambonnay, named Joseph. Julie Cavil is the current cellar master at Krug.
Private Cuvée
Private Cuvée is the former name of the non-vintage blended cuvée now known as Krug Grande Cuvée. Created to offer a complete expression of the Maison's style every year despite climatic variations, it combines several grape varieties, plots, and years thanks to an extensive library of reserve wines. Therefore, it is neither a single plot nor a regulatory designation, but a true historical cuvée of Krug.

Histoire de la cuvée
The cuvée traces its origins back to Joseph Krug's founding project in 1843: to recreate the best possible champagne every year, transcending the limits of a single vintage. Historically marketed under the name Private Cuvée, it was renamed Krug Grande Cuvée when the Maison's distinctive bottle was adopted during the 1970s. Today, the Maison considers each annual blend as a new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
