Histoire du domaine
The Jacquesson house was founded in 1798 in Châlons-sur-Marne by Claude Jacquesson and his son Memmie. In the 19th century, it underwent significant expansion under the leadership of Adolphe Jacquesson, Memmie’s son. In 1844, Adolphe Jacquesson registered the patent for the ‘muselet’, designed to hold the cork in place in champagne bottles. He also contributed to advances in champagne-making techniques alongside Jules Guyot. Johann Joseph Krug worked as cellar master at Jacquesson before founding his own house. After a more difficult period in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the house was acquired by the de Tassigny family in 1924. The Chiquet family took over Jacquesson in 1974 and relocated the business to Dizy; Jean Chiquet, followed by his sons Laurent and Jean-Hervé, ran the house for nearly fifty years. This period saw, in particular, the creation of the numbered cuvées of the 700 series. At the end of 2022, Jacquesson joined Artémis Domaines, a group owned by the Pinault and Henriot La Rouzière families. Yann Le Gall, the house’s wine director, is responsible for winemaking.
739
Cuvée n° 739 is a blended Champagne built around the 2011 harvest, supplemented by 31% reserve wines. It combines Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier, embodying the principle of the 700 series: seeking the best blend for each year rather than reproducing a constant taste. The first juices are vinified and aged in large oak casks (foudres) before bottling.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The number continues the numbering of the cellar book recording the declarations made to customs since 1898; the modern series began with Cuvée 728.
- Cuvée creation year
- 2012
- Style of the cuvée
- A vinous and precise Champagne, favoring the expression of the dominant harvest, enriched in complexity by reserve wines. Jacquesson describes the base wines of the 739 as balanced, harmonious, and homogeneous.
- Position within the range
- Jacquesson's central great blended wine within the 700 series, distinct from the single-plot cuvées.
Histoire de la cuvée
Stemming from the concept inaugurated in 2000 with Cuvée 728, Cuvée n° 739 was crafted around the 2011 harvest and bottled in the spring of 2012. It features in Jacquesson's official programs for 2015 and 2016. A Late Disgorgement (Dégorgement Tardif) version, aged for 96 months on lees under cork, was disgorged in June 2020.
