Histoire du domaine

Domaine Camus Père et Fils has been established in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1732, according to records from the Côte-d’Or Chamber of Agriculture. A specialist source indicates that the family already owned the estate at that time, although its earlier origins cannot be precisely documented. During the phylloxera crisis, the family is said to have temporarily abandoned its vineyards; their forefather, Joseph Camus, is said to have subsequently acquired plots of land at the end of the epidemic. The vineyard layout has remained broadly stable since then and now covers around 18 hectares. Hubert Camus, born in 1937, took over the family estate in 1974 after completing his military service. He also served on several occasions as president of the Burgundy Wine Board. The estate continues to harvest by hand and ages its wines in barrels for between 16 and 18 months. Marie-Édith Camus is currently the designated contact for the Burgundy wine industry body and became co-manager of the estate in 2022.

Parcelle & terroir

Latricières-Chambertin

The plot area of Latricières-Chambertin occupies the heart of the "Latricières" lieu-dit, immediately south of Chambertin, in the territory of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines are located on the foothills, on a slight flat area facing east, at the mouth of the Combe Grisard. The soils, which are thin, carbonated, and well-draining, combine scree, clays, and red silts above a Bajocian marly-limestone substrate.

Disputed etymology: "Latricières" is said to be linked either to a "little marvel" or to the Old Burgundian word "la tricière", designating poor land or land unsuitable for cultivation.

Histoire de la parcelle

The lieu-dit is mentioned for the first time in the 16th century and acquired its reputation in the 18th century. Jules Lavalle classified its wines as "second cuvée" in 1855. A judgment by the Dijon court in 1931 recognized the Latricières-Chambertin appellation of origin and established its geographical boundaries; the AOC was subsequently recognized by decree on July 31, 1937.
