Histoire du domaine
The estate has been owned by the Voge family for several generations and has been part of the Cornas wine-growing heritage since the early 20th century. In 1958, Alain Voge joined his father on a farm that was then focused on mixed farming, a nursery and livestock breeding. He gradually began to refocus the business on viticulture, replanting previously abandoned slopes and developing on-estate bottling. From the late 1970s onwards, he devoted increasing attention to viticulture and began selling his wines directly to the public. In 1980, he chose to devote himself exclusively to winemaking. Between 1979 and 2000, he played a part in the replanting of several Cornas vineyards and developed barrel-aged still wines from Saint-Péray. SARL Alain Voge was established in 2004 with Albéric Mazoyer as managing partner; the transition to organic farming began in 2006, starting with the white grape vines in Saint-Péray. Lionel Fraisse joined the estate in 2012, then took over as manager in 2018 following Albéric Mazoyer’s retirement. The entire vineyard has been certified organic since 2016 and is managed according to biodynamic principles. Alain Voge passed away in September 2020. The estate remains family-owned, with Lionel Fraisse as estate manager and Laurent Martin as cellar master.
Les Vieilles Fontaines
Les Vieilles Fontaines is a 100% Syrah Cornas from an old vineyard located in the lieu-dit La Fontaine, on a granitic terroir. Created in 1988, this cuvée is only produced in years deemed exceptional by the estate. It stands out for its rarity, its single-plot origin, and the use of the estate's oldest Syrah vines.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name refers to the lieu-dit La Fontaine and its spring, which once supplied water to the home of a noble family in Cornas.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1988
- Style of the cuvée
- Concentrated, deep, and structured Cornas, expressing the power of Syrah and granite while striving for elegance, complexity, and long-term aging potential.
- Position within the range
- Rare and prestigious single-plot cuvée of Cornas, produced exclusively in great years.
Histoire de la cuvée
Alain Voge created Les Vieilles Fontaines in 1988 to isolate the expression of an old vine in the lieu-dit La Fontaine. The estate reserves its production for great years, which explains its discontinued and rare character.
