De Villaine Mercurey Les Montots Rouge 2022 Bottle (75cl)
Mercurey Les Montots Rouge 2022 from Maison Chanzy is a red Burgundy wine from the Les Montots parcel, classified as a Burgundy 1er Cru. Jancis Robinson awards it 16.5+ / 20 and recommends drinking between 2027 and 2035. The critic describes a red with nuances of small wild cherries, driven by a firm and chewy texture, ample mid-palate weight, and persistent freshness; it deserves a few years of cellaring.

Histoire du domaine
The property's history began in 1928 in Bouzeron, when Joseph Sordet founded Domaine du Verger d’Exemple in a residence featuring a vaulted cellar dating from the 16th century. The estate, then dedicated to vines, fruit trees, and the teaching of grafting, was acquired in 1952 by Lucien Juif; at that time, it comprised 12 hectares planted with Aligoté. In 1966, notary Jean Beudet took over the operation, renamed it Domaine Beudet, and expanded its vineyard to 18 hectares. Daniel and Catherine Chanzy purchased it in 1974, gave it its current name, and expanded its surface area to 37 hectares. In 2013, the estate was acquired by the investment company OLMA, co-managed by Stéphane Petrossian and Philippe Der Megreditchian. The property was subsequently extended to 80 hectares, of which 66 hectares are planted and farmed, spread across the three major Burgundian côtes. Xavier Badinand has managed it since 2018, and Max Blondelle joined the house in January 2020 as cellar master and head of vinification.
Les Montots
Les Montots is a winegrowing climat in the commune of Mercurey, officially classified among the village-level appellation climats rather than the Mercurey Premier Cru. The geopedological zoning presented by the appellation defense body links different parts of the climat to two families: soils derived from hard white limestones, and deep limestone-free clay soils. Documentation from Domaine de Villaine describes its Les Montots vineyard on a fairly steep slope facing southeast, with a clay-limestone and ferruginous soil. However, the characteristics detailed by this producer may only apply to their specific plot within the climat.
