Histoire du domaine
Shinjiro Torii founded Torii Shoten in Osaka in 1899 to produce Western-style beverages tailored to the Japanese palate. Following the success of Akadama Port Wine, launched in 1907, he led the company into whisky production and in 1923 began construction of the Yamazaki distillery, presented by Suntory as Japan's first malt whisky distillery. The first whisky, Shirofuda, was released in 1929, followed by Kakubin in 1937. The enterprise, incorporated as Kotobukiya in 1921, adopted the name Suntory Limited in 1963. Under the leadership of Keizo Saji, the founder's son and second master blender, Suntory established the Chita grain distillery in 1972 and the Hakushu malt distillery in 1973, before launching the Yamazaki single malts in 1984 and Hakushu in 1994, as well as the Hibiki blend in 1989. A holding company, Suntory Holdings Limited, was established in 2009. Rakzan 25 ans is an exclusive bottling of Suntory blended whisky released in 2015 for Liquor Mountain; specialized sources consulted indicate a yield of 150 bottles, an ABV of 48%, and the use of whiskies associated with the Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries. Shinji Fukuyo, Suntory's fifth Chief Blender and appointed Global Blending Lead in 2026, currently directs the blending operations globally.
