Château Segonnes
Segonnes is the name of a historic wine from the Margaux appellation, produced from plots that were once distinguished within the Château Lascombes vineyard. It does not correspond to a wine estate currently recognised as independent: the known historic bottles form part of the history of Château Lascombes.
Histoire du domaine
The name Segonnes was historically associated with the site of Château Lascombes, in Margaux-Cantenac. According to the history published by Château Lascombes, Jean de Lascombes acquired a property in the 17th century then known as Segonnes, which already comprised a Carthusian monastery, a wine storehouse and a cellar. In 1805, Jean-Baptiste Loriague named the estate Château Lascombes, in reference to the Lascombes family. In the 1980s, part of the Lascombes vineyard was set aside to produce wine under the Château Segonnes label, within the Margaux appellation. Market and auction sources confirm the existence of bottles from the 1982, 1990 and 1996 vintages, amongst others. Segonnes should therefore be regarded as a former brand or wine associated with Château Lascombes, rather than as a current independent producer. Château Lascombes is now owned by the Lawrence family; however, this information does not allow us to attribute with certainty any specific production, dedicated vineyard or current cellar manager to the Segonnes brand.
