Domaine Roux

Based in Saint-Aubin, Domaine Roux Père et Fils is a Burgundian family estate combining winegrowing and a négociant activity. Its 65 hectares of owned vineyards cover numerous appellations in the Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, and Côte chalonnaise, notably Chambolle-Musigny and Corton-Charlemagne. Winemaking, overseen notably by Matthieu Roux, favors a parcel-by-parcel reading of the various terroirs.

Histoire du domaine

The Roux family's winemaking history began in 1885, when Louis Roux acquired the Les Pucelles parcel in Saint-Aubin. The vineyard then expanded to Puligny-Montrachet in 1934, followed by Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay in 1960. In 1972, Marcel and Bernadette Roux structured Domaine Roux and continued its development, notably with the acquisition of vines in Meursault in 1974, bringing the total to 25 hectares by 1990. Their sons Christian, Régis, and Emmanuel gradually joined the estate between 1975 and 1994, and concurrently created a négociant house activity to complement the appellations from the family vines. The estate established itself in Chambolle-Musigny in 1994, Vougeot in 1995, Ladoix and Aloxe-Corton in 1996, Mercurey in 1998, and Gevrey-Chambertin in 2000. Sébastien and Matthieu Roux joined the company in 2003, representing the fifth generation, reinforcing parcel-based work as well as the promotion of estate wines. New acquisitions were made in Beaune and Rully in 2004, then in Monthélie in 2018. The property remains family-owned; Matthieu Roux is identified as the head of winemaking, while Sébastien is notably involved in the commercial management of the business.

Corton Charlemagne (Aloxe Corton)

Corton-Charlemagne is a white Grand Cru appellation whose demarcated parcel area occupies the upper part of the montagne de Corton, across Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. In Aloxe-Corton, its geographical core corresponds to the climat Le Charlemagne; the appellation also unites En Charlemagne and several neighboring climats. The vineyard is located between 280 and 330 meters, on steep slopes of 20 to 23%, with a predominantly southwest exposure at the appellation scale. Histoire de la parcelle

A vineyard on the montagne de Corton was given in 775 by Charlemagne to the collegiate church of Saint-Andoche de Saulieu and remained part of its estate for approximately a millennium. The Corton-Charlemagne appellation was recognized by the decree of July 31, 1937. Its current parcel area is based on a delimitation approved by the INAO on September 20, 1984.

Sandalwood and jasmine spice, fragrant, high above the glass. Deeply spice-etched peach fruit. So tightly folded and carved that it feels, for now, abrupt. Diamond edges.
