Histoire du domaine
The current château was built in the 16th century by the lord Baude de Peyron on the remains of a former medieval fortress. Remodeled in the 18th and 19th centuries, the property notably gained a greenhouse designed by Gustave Eiffel. Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot purchased the estate on April 1, 1990, and initiated the renovation of the château and cellars. A lake designed notably to protect the vineyard against frost was created in 1993, followed by the birth of the Grand Vin de Reignac cuvée in 1996. The 16th-century dovecote was restored in 1998 and transformed into a tasting tower. In 2002, Balthvs appeared, a Merlot cuvée vinified in barrels according to a method patented by Yves Vatelot, a process later applied to Reignac. The estate continued its modernization with a new storage cellar in 2012 and the renovation of the vat room in 2018, featuring six small inverted truncated-cone vats to refine parcel-by-parcel vinification.
