Histoire du domaine
Philippe Pacalet comes from a family with links to viticulture; the company’s website mentions an ancestor who was a winegrower as far back as 1780. Trained in the sciences, he obtained a degree in oenology and specialised in the study of indigenous yeasts. He then gained ten years’ experience as estate manager at a vineyard in the Côte de Nuits, identified by several sources as the Prieuré-Roch estate. In 2001, he settled in Beaune and founded Maison Philippe Pacalet. His business model is based primarily on harvest purchase contracts: the winery tends the selected vineyards, carries out the harvest and vinifies the grapes in its own cellars. The company states that it currently works on more than ten hectares of vineyards in Burgundy, although this area does not necessarily correspond to vineyards it owns outright. Philippe Pacalet remains directly responsible for the winemaking. The operating company is SAS Philippe Pacalet; it is chaired by SARL Financière Pacalet, of which Philippe Pacalet and Monica Marcucci-Pacalet are managing directors.
Les Arvelets (Pommard)
Les Arvelets is a climat officially classified as Premier Cru of the Pommard appellation, in the commune of Pommard. It is located at the exit of the combe, on its northern slope, but benefits from a full south exposure. Sources dedicated to the climat describe a particularly steep hillside and clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxide, with alluvial and silt deposits. The altitude values published for the whole of Pommard, namely 250 to 330 meters, do not make it possible to determine with certainty the exact altitude of the entire climat.

Histoire de la parcelle
Les Arvelets appears in the regulatory demarcation of the climats of Pommard classified as Premier Cru. The Pommard appellation was demarcated by judgments delivered in 1926 then on appeal in 1932, before its recognition as an appellation d'origine contrôlée in 1936. No sufficiently documented historical chronology has been found for the entire climat Les Arvelets independently of its particular properties, notably Clos des Arvelets.
