Jean Rijckaert

Founded by Jean Rijckaert, this estate brings together two vineyards and two cellars in the Mâconnais and the Jura, complemented by a grape-purchasing activity on the vine in Burgundy. Since the handover initiated in 2013, Florent Rouve has managed the estate and overseen vinification in continuity with the founder, featuring manual harvesting, native fermentations, and long aging primarily in barrels.

Histoire du domaine

Belgian by origin, Jean Rijckaert began his winemaking career in 1990 in the Mâconnais by co-founding the Verget négociant house in Sologny with Jean-Marie Guffens. In 1998, he created his eponymous estate and acquired 4 hectares in the Mâconnais, primarily in Viré-Clessé, as well as 5 hectares around Arbois in the Jura. This setup gave birth to a unique structure featuring two vineyards and two cellars—one in Burgundy and the other in the Jura—while his range is also sustained by grapes purchased on the vine and entirely harvested, vinified, and aged by the estate. Jean Rijckaert met Florent Rouve during the 2000s. An agricultural engineer and oenologist, the latter began managing the Domaine des Poncétys in Davayé starting in 2007. Following a gradual transmission of expertise, Florent Rouve officially took over Domaine Rijckaert in 2013, with the support of the Collovray and Terrier families. He has since overseen estate management and vinifications, while Rémi Treuvey joined the team in 2018 as manager of the Jura vineyard.

Corton Charlemagne (Aloxe Corton)

Corton-Charlemagne is a white Grand Cru appellation whose demarcated parcel area occupies the upper part of the montagne de Corton, across Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. In Aloxe-Corton, its geographical core corresponds to the climat Le Charlemagne; the appellation also unites En Charlemagne and several neighboring climats. The vineyard is located between 280 and 330 meters, on steep slopes of 20 to 23%, with a predominantly southwest exposure at the appellation scale. The clay-rich marly soils rest on an alternation of limestone beds and marls, beneath a thin layer of rendzinas.
