Domaine Francois Villard
Created in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône by François Villard, the estate farms 45 hectares across several northern Rhône appellations, notably Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, and Saint-Péray. Certified organic since August 2022, it practices manual vineyard management, plot-by-plot harvesting, and separate vinifications prior to blending. Its production combines estate-grown grapes and complementary purchases.

Histoire du domaine
A trained chef, François Villard developed a passion for wine at the age of 20, then trained in sommellerie in Tain-l’Hermitage and in viticulture-enology. After an internship with Yves Cuilleron, he planted his first vineyard in the spring of 1989 in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, on the lieu-dit Poncins in the Condrieu appellation, thus founding a completely self-made estate. His first vinifications were carried out in Verlieu; his first Condrieu, from the 1991 vintage, was released in autumn 1992 with a production of 400 bottles. In 1996, he had his own cellar built in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône. That same year, he partnered with Yves Cuilleron and Pierre Gaillard to revive the Seyssuel vineyard, an adventure that gave rise to Les Vins de Vienne, whose first vintage was produced in 1998. Still managed by François Villard, the estate has progressively expanded to 45 hectares and obtained its organic agriculture certification in August 2022.

Histoire de la cuvée
The 2009 vintage is the first documented bottling found and was presented at the time as a new cuvée. The grapes came in particular from old vines previously integrated into DePoncins; current professional sources describe Villa Pontciana as a barrel selection from the oldest vines in the Poncins sector.
