Histoire du domaine
The Groffier family’s roots in viticulture date back to the 19th century, with Frédéric Groffier. Between the 1930s and 1950s, Jules Groffier built up a significant part of the family’s wine-growing estate in Chambolle-Musigny and in the grands crus, notably at Les Amoureuses, Bonnes-Mares and Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze. His son Robert Groffier, born in 1931, began working in the vineyards in 1945 and established the estate in its current form. He began bottling wine at the estate in the 1960s, whilst continuing to sell some of the grapes to wine merchants until the 1990s. Serge Groffier worked alongside his father from his teenage years and was responsible for winemaking from 1984 to 2006. Nicolas Groffier joined the estate in 2005 and has been in charge of the wines since 2007. Julie Groffier joined the estate in 2014; she now works alongside Nicolas in running this family-owned estate. The estate is based in Morey-Saint-Denis, whilst its vineyards are spread across Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin.
Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze
Chambertin-Clos de Bèze is a physically delimited Grand Cru appellation whose parcel area corresponds exclusively to the "Clos de Bèze" lieu-dit in Gevrey-Chambertin. The terroir occupies an east-facing hillside, with piedmont plots at the heart of a small amphitheater. The shallow, well-draining, carbonated clay-limestone soils combine scree, clays, and red silts. They primarily overlie a Bajocian substratum of crinoidal limestone and marly levels.

Histoire de la parcelle
Clos de Bèze has been known since the 7th century, and the BIVB dates its entry into history to 640 as a monastic property of the Abbaye de Bèze. It was transferred to the Chapter of Langres in the early 13th century, then remained in the hands of the canons until the French Revolution, when it was divided among multiple owners. The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze appellation d'origine contrôlée was recognized by the decree of July 31, 1937; its delimited parcel area corresponds exclusively to the lieu-dit Clos de Bèze.
