Domaine Mugneret Gibourg Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vignes Rondes 2001 Bouteille (75cl)

The 2001 Domaine Mugneret Gibourg Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vignes Rondes is a red Burgundy wine made from 100% Pinot Noir, produced in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. This cuvée comes from the Aux Vignerondes parcel, acquired by Marie-Christine Mugneret in 1981. The estate describes the soil for Les Vignes Rondes as deep, rich, and stony, with a firmer structure than that of Les Chaignots, making it well-suited for extended cellaring. Its profile combines depth, balance, and integrated tannins.

Histoire du domaine

The Mugneret family settled in Vosne-Romanée in 1930. Jeanne Gibourg and André Mugneret, who married in 1928, founded Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg in 1933. There, they produced red Burgundies, including Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Échezeaux. Their only son, Georges Mugneret, an ophthalmologist in Dijon, continued the family’s wine-making business alongside his medical practice. He gradually expanded the vineyard through acquisitions at Clos Vougeot in 1953, in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1971, in Ruchottes-Chambertin in 1977, and then at Les Vignes Rondes and Les Feusselottes in the 1980s. Following his death in 1988, his wife Jacqueline ensured the estate’s continuity alongside their daughter Marie-Christine, who was soon joined by Marie-Andrée after she completed her studies in oenology at the University of Burgundy. In 2009, Domaines Mugneret-Gibourg and Georges Mugneret merged under the name Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The estate is now run by Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée, whilst Lucie and Marion, their respective eldest daughters, joined the business in 2017 and 2018. The two sisters oversee the winemaking process directly, from the hand-harvesting to the blending and bottling at the estate.
