Domaine Auvenay Folatieres 1998 Bouteille (75cl) -2.5cm
The 1998 Domaine d’Auvenay Les Folatières is a white Burgundy wine from the Les Folatières climat in the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru appellation. Produced by Domaine d’Auvenay, it is made exclusively from Chardonnay. The designation Les Folatières refers to one of the climats that can complement the Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru appellation. This 1998 vintage thus combines the precise identity of a Puligny-Montrachet parcel with the status of a Burgundy premier cru.

Histoire du domaine
The history of Domaine d’Auvenay is linked to the Leroy family, who have been involved in the Burgundy wine trade since the founding of Maison Leroy in 1868. Lalou Bize-Leroy inherited the Domaine d’Auvenay with her sister upon the death of their father, Henri Leroy, in 1980. She bought out her sister’s share in 1990 and became the sole owner of the estate situated near Saint-Romain. The core of the vineyard consists mainly of family-owned plots in Meursault and Auxey-Duresses. Between 1989 and 1995, Lalou Bize-Leroy gradually expanded the vineyard by acquiring plots in the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. These acquisitions included, in particular, plots in Les Folatières in Puligny-Montrachet, in Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, in Chevalier-Montrachet, in Bonnes-Mares and in Mazis-Chambertin. The winery was refurbished in 1994. Lalou Bize-Leroy personally oversees the running of the estate and the winemaking decisions, continuing the biodynamic practices applied across her estates.
Les Folatières
Les Folatières is a climat officially classified as a Premier Cru of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, in the commune of the same name. Its regulatory perimeter brings together the lieux-dits Es Folatières, En la Richarde dit Les Folatières, Peux Bois dit Les Folatières, and Au Chaniot dit Les Folatières. It occupies a central position on the mid-slope and features limestone, stony soils, notably mixing ochre earth and stones. The orientations and altitudes published often concern the entire appellation or specific plots of producers and are therefore not retained here as exact values for the entire climat.

Histoire de la parcelle
Les Folatières appeared under the form "Es Follatières" among the climats of Puligny studied by Jules Lavalle in 1855, who placed it in the second cuvée. The climat is today registered in the specifications of Puligny-Montrachet among the denominations that can accompany the Premier Cru mention; the specific plot area of the premiers crus was approved by the INAO on May 17 and 18, 1984.
