Histoire du domaine

The Domaine d’Ardhuy was founded in 1927 by Pierre André, who acquired his first vineyards in Aloxe-Corton at that time. The family estate is situated around Corgoloin, at the junction of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. In 1947, Gabriel Liogier joined Pierre André as technical director and, in the same year, married his daughter Éliane. He took charge of winemaking and ageing, then of the estate’s management from 1955 onwards. Gabriel Liogier-d’Ardhuy expanded the estate’s landholdings and had a new winery built in 1966, which was extended between 1987 and 1989. In 1989, he handed over the management to his eldest daughter, Mireille. The estate remains in the ownership of the d’Ardhuy family to this day. Vincent Bottreau has been the estate manager since 2017 and co-manager since 2019; he oversees winemaking with the support of Thomas Chekroun and Éric Néault in the winery. After more than ten years of experimentation, the estate reports that it has resumed 100 per cent organic practices across all 37 hectares in 2022.

Parcelle & terroir

Corton [Blanc]

Corton is a physically delimited Grand Cru on the slopes of the Montagne de Corton, spread across Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny, and Pernand-Vergelesses. The appellation mainly produces reds, but also allows rare whites, notably from the Vergennes and Les Languettes sectors; for whites, a climat name cannot accompany Corton on the label. The vineyard forms an amphitheater with varied exposures, on Jurassic limestones and marls yielding generally shallow, well-drained, and limited-fertility soils.

Vineyard commune
Aloxe-Corton
Origin of the vineyard name
Uncertain etymology: the name is thought to be a contraction of the Latin "Curtis Othonis", the estate or enclosure of Otto, which became Courthon then Corton.
Exposure
from east to south then west; overall south-east to south-west
Altitude
240–350 m
Slope
variable; gentle at mid-slope, often steep in the upper half
Soil
Shallow and well-drained soils; colluvium at the foot of the slope, reddish and stony calcic brown soils at mid-slope, silty and low-fertility soils higher up.
Subsoil and geology
Middle Jurassic Dalle nacrée limestones in the lower part; limestones and marls, including silica-rich marls with chert (chailles), in the upper half of the slope.

Histoire de la parcelle

Vines have been documented on the Montagne de Corton since the 9th century. In the 12th century, the Abbey of Cîteaux owned a major estate in Aloxe which included vines at Clos de Courthon; other religious institutions, the Dukes of Burgundy, and the bourgeoisie of Beaune subsequently established estates there. In 1855, Dr. Jules Lavalle classified Corton among the "vins hors ligne" (exceptional wines); Aloxe added Corton to its name in 1862, and the Corton appellation d'origine was recognized on July 31, 1937.
