Histoire du domaine
The Quebrada de Macul vineyard was planted in 1970 on hillsides to the east of Santiago. For several years, its grapes were sold to other Chilean producers. In the mid-1990s, Isabelle and Ricardo Peña decided to produce and market their own wine, with initial support from the oenologist Ignacio Recabarren and an American partner. Domus Aurea was born out of this decision, and its first vintage was 1996. The estate is situated on a single vineyard of approximately 18.2 hectares, divided into five blocks according to soil depth and stoniness. Jean-Pascal Lacaze joined the project in 2003 and is now in charge of winemaking. The grapes are harvested selectively, after which the winemaking process includes, in particular, fermentation in open vats and ageing tailored to each batch. The estate also produces other wines under the Peñalolén, Alba de Domus and Stella Aurea brands.
Pargua
Pargua is a red blend marketed separately by Viña Pargua and featured on the official website linked to Domus Aurea. Primarily based on Cabernet Sauvignon, it combines several Bordeaux grape varieties from the Maipo Valley vineyard. It differs from Anka through generally longer aging and a higher proportion of new oak barrels.
