Histoire du domaine
In 1989, Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud purchased their first plot of 0.6 hectares in the Fongaban valley, between the Pavie-Macquin and La Clotte sectors and the village of Saint-Émilion. The first vintage of Château Valandraud was produced in 1991. In the early days, the wine was made in a garage converted into a cellar, which placed the estate firmly within the ‘garage wine’ movement in Saint-Émilion. In 1999, the couple invested in the cooler, later-ripening terroirs of the Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse plateau. The vineyard subsequently expanded and now covers 10.70 hectares, according to the estate. Château Valandraud was awarded Premier Grand Cru Classé status in the 2012 Saint-Émilion classification; this status was confirmed in the 2022 classification. Since the 2020 vintage, winemaking and ageing have taken place in a bioclimatic cellar carved into the limestone plateau. Murielle Andraud and Jean-Luc Thunevin remain the owners of the château; Rémi Dalmasso is the cellar master and Christophe Lardière leads the viticulture team.
