Histoire du domaine
The existence of TrotteVieille is attested as far back as the 15th century by a lease agreement drawn up in the Gascon language. Before the French Revolution, the land belonged to Jean Laveau, who also owned Château Villemaurine. In 1841, it was acquired by Isambert, a solicitor and owner of Château l’Évangile in Pomerol. The estate was divided amongst several owners in 1868, one of whom was the Dumugron family. In 1898, Édouard Jean reunited the property, before being succeeded by his son Charles Jean in 1908. Joséphine Gibaud, Charles Jean’s wife, then took over the running of the estate from 1929, after which the property passed to their heirs in 1942. Marcel Borie, co-founder of the wine merchant Borie-Manoux, purchased Château Trotte-Vieille in 1947. The estate has been classified as a Premier Grand Cru of Saint-Émilion since 1955. Émile Castéja succeeded Marcel Borie, and Philippe Castéja took over the management of the château in the 1990s. The second wine, initially named Vieille Dame de TrotteVieille, was launched in the 2000s and has been known as Dame de TrotteVieille since the 2010 vintage. In 2012, the château acquired four hectares of vineyards from Château Bergat. Philippe Castéja is listed as the owner, whilst Valério Mortari has held the post of cellar master since 2018.
